THEY LIVE IN MOST TORTUROUS CLIMATIC CONDITION BUT POLITICANS REMIAN INSENSITIVE
by Navreet Milton
Kargil,
The residents of village Matayan and Pendrass are likely not to vote this Parliamentary election as their demand of shifting them from the present location to a safer place has not been considered despite several reminders and requests by the local villagers, Authorities have not done much about their plight. Both these villages have got total electorate of 688 which includes males and females ( Matayan- 271, Pendrass- 417).
The residents of this area counter severe cold and are cut off from the rest of the country for about four to five months( November to March) .
This is the tortures time when they live under the most difficult conditions encountering their life and death. These people are deprived of general facilities like medical , essential commodities and life saving drugs as they claim. However, it is learned them the official source that they have been stocking necessary items including medicines.
Recently this winters there was a case of a pregnant lady who was in the need of immediate medical assistance but due lack of transportation facility the lady had to suffer for a week and finally she had to be evacuated on a horse as there was huge accumulation of snow on the way to her house. This is not the first case recorded , there were many similar cases in the past as well where the patients had to suffer due to unavailable medical/ transport facilities.
It has been a practice in this part of the region that they show their protest by the way of boycotting election without considering the whether their demands will be heard or not by the administration.
